Shimo 2.2.2 is Out

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Shimo 2.2.2 was released this weekend, and I had to get the update. It's the slickest, cleanest, way to deal with VPN issues that I've seen on Mac OS X. I can connect, do work, and disconnect without any issues at all. It just works. That's a lot better than the old VPN software I used to use at my previous job. It wasn't nearly as nice. If you have VPNs to deal with - really consider this. It's incredible.

iConquer 3.0 is Out with Snow Leopard Support

Friday, October 16th, 2009

This morning I saw that iConquer 3.0 was released as a 64-bit app with full Snow Leopard support. I haven't played it in quite a while, but it's still my favorite implementation of Risk on the Mac. I've seen one on the iPhone, and have been tempted, but haven't taken the plunge. For now, this is how I play the game, and it's great to see that at least some work is being done on the code. For a while there, I was thinking it had been sold off and mothballed.

DrawIt 3.10.1 is Out with Snow Leopard Fixes

Friday, October 9th, 2009

I saw that DrawIt 3.10.1 is out and the big change is in how the files are saved. I've seen this on several other apps moving to Snow Leopard, so I'm guessing that this fact, combined with the micro release number means that it's just one little thing and yet it's important. Good enough for me.

VelaClock 2.2 is Out with Snow Leopard Compatibility

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

I didn't know that VelaClock wasn't Snow Leopard compatible but today I noticed that VelaClock 2.2 was out and they mentioned that it was now Snow Leopard compatible. Of course, I had to get it.

Google Adds Push GMail for iPhone

GMail-iPhone.jpg

Well, I'm really glad this happened... Google has finally gotten push email for GMail accounts. Sure, it's using the Microsoft Exchange connector in the iPhone OS 3.x, but still, that's a lot better than the polling I had to do in the past. Also, the Yahoo! push email was very unreliable in my usage. Sometimes I'd get emails in a minute or two, and sometimes I wouldn't get them until I opened up the Mail app and it scanned for me. Far too unreliable to use everyday.

But with GMail Push, I can (and did) move my iPhone email to GMail and then redirected the forwarder on iphone@bobbeaty.com to the new GMail account. Then, by following these simple instructions, I was able to get my GMail on the iPhone. Very nice.

When I sent a test email from my laptop to my iPhone, it arrived in less than 3 seconds. Amazing. You can't beat Google for good engineering. Thankfully, I used the domain mail forwarding so that changing the underlying email account was easy and didn't effect the stream of emails. What a sweet deal.

Flip4Mac WMV 2.3.0.11 Beta is Out with Snow Leopard Support

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

This morning I saw that Flip4Mac WMV - the free add-on to QuickTime to view Windows media files, had a new beta that was Snow Leopard ready. I tried to get it, but the disk image wasn't mountable, and submitted a 'ticket' to them. In a few hours, they had a new download file on the site and it worked just fine.

This guy had a 64-bit Pref Pane, which was nice as all the others I have are all 64-bit and I didn't want to fall back to the 32-bit System Preferences app. With this, I get what I need. Nice.

DrawIt 3.9 is Out – Snow Leopard Only

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Well... I didn't think they'd do it this quickly, but DrawIt has released 3.9 which is for Snow Leopard only. Seems there's something to it as the update notes say:

IMPORTANT: This version only works well with 10.6 Snow Leopard. If you are still on Leopard, do not upgrade to version 3.9.

DrawIt 3.9 brings several improvements to DrawIt in stability, memory usage and speed, but it only works on Snow Leopard.

I'm glad to see it. The upgrade cost was under $50 for everyone, and that's cheap by any standards. So it's nice to see developers take advantage of new features. There's nothing wrong with being a version behind on some boxes, but moving forward is nice too.

Audio Hijack Pro 2.9.3 is Out with Snow Leopard Support

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

I just got a tweet that the last of the Rogue Amoeba apps of mine is now Snow Leopard compatible:

Audio Hijack Pro 2.9.3 brings full Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) compatibility, including updates to the Instant Hijack and System Audio (Soundflower) extras, as well as several important bug fixes.

So I had to get it! Fantastic.

ZeusDraw 1.3.4 is Out with Snow Leopard Support

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Well, as promised, ZeusDraw 1.3.4 is out and comes with Snow Leopard support. I've used this for a lot of projects, and I have to say, while it's not as nice as I might wish it were, there are very few things that I need to do that it can't do. Now I can do them in Snow Leopard - even better.

Dropbox 0.7.17 Beta Fixes Snow Leopard Issues

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Well, this is one in the books now... Dropbox has a beta that should fix all the Snow Leopard issues. While it's not the final release, it's a good step in the right direction and over the course of the next few weeks, I expect Adium and Growl to follow suit.
