This morning I saw that NetNewsWire 3.2.8 was out, and the biggest improvement by far is that this version is 64-bit, and that any crashes in Flash will now not crash the entire app - just the Flash container. That's nice, but I can't imagine when I'm using Flash in the app, but maybe I am. Either way, nice to see an update to such a great app.
Seems this morning that the developers at Google released Google Chrome dev 9.0.570.0 and with it a significant version number change. Maybe this bodes well for the browser. Looking at the release notes, however, leaves me wondering:

which, to me, sounds like the major version number is really just a sham, and the third number - 570, is the one to look at. They aren't using the major numbers to indicate anything other than what they consider to be dev versus beta versus release.
Kind of disappointing...
It was Halloween a few days ago, and that means two things: Pumpkin Pie and Tootsie Pops. I had both, and was lucky enough to have a slight surplus of the latter to bring a few to work. They are so fun. And tasty.
But Mr. Owl was wrong... it takes a lot more licks to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop. A lot more than three.
I noticed today that Google Chrome dev 8.0.552.23 is out with some fixes for the plugins as well as disabling the accelerated 2D canvas. I'm not sure I'm thrilled with the disabling of the 2D acceleration, but I'm guessing that they didn't like the consequences of having it on, but I'm guessing they'll turn it back on soon enough.
After many moons in it's beta phase, Adium 1.4 has finally shipped. From what I've heard, it was really a mess and the new codebase - that which promises the video chat, etc. is entirely different, and solves many of the problems that have plagued Adium 1.4, and prior releases. Good news for them. Glad to see it.
It's not going to make a huge difference to me, but it's nice to see they have finally pulled the trigger and called it "shipped".
I got a notice this afternoon that Adium 1.4rc2 is out and they fixed several memory leaks. Excellent! Not a lot else, however, and that's good news, too:
- Fixed several memory leaks
- Improved performance when signing on and when joining large group chats (including #14402)
- Fixed an exception which could cause Adium to become nonresponsive (#14229)
Still the best little IM app out there. Fantastic!
I saw that Google Chrome dev 8.0.552.18 was released, and it appears that it's just a round of stability and polish features. The release notes are pretty sparse:
The Chrome Dev channel has been updated to 8.0.552.18 for all platforms. This release addresses a number of stability and polish issues found in the previous release. It also has moved the work on 3D acceleration back to about:flags.
now I like that the about:flags reports the GPU-based acceleration, as I've been wondering if it's active for my build, so that's nice, but the rest is really more polish. Nice, but not earth-shaking new features.
Today I got a tweet about BBEdit 9.6 being released, and there are a lot of nice features and fixes in this guy. I'm really quite impressed that they keep being able to move the state of the art on editing forward, but then again, so does Transmit. I guess it takes smart guys, and they'll keep the code moving forward.
Anyway, it has some interesting features, and well worth the time to upgrade.
This morning I noticed that the guy(s) at Flying Meat have updated Acorn to 2.6.1 with several fixes. I hadn't run into any problems, but clearly after the 2.6 update, there were a few lingering issues that needed to be hammered out. Glad to see the progress and attention to detail.
This morning I noticed that Google Chrome dev 8.0.552.11 is out, and the release notes say the changes are minor - with the standard stability fixes. There is still the graphics rendering issues when scrolling in a zoomed view, and without a fixed zoom level, I'm stuck with 83% as the first zoom level "out" from 100%. I would like to be able to say 85% or 90% - but no such luck.
But I'll keep hoping that someday soon these things will get fixed.
