What's it all about, Alfie?

This morning I noticed that Google Chrome dev 9.0.597.16 was out with the fix for the botched release they had last week. Basically, you could scroll down with the mouse wheel (or two-finger swipe on the Mac), but you couldn't scroll up. Kind of frustrating to go one way and not the other.

But true to their word, they released a new version with the fix for the scrolling in just a few days. For that, I'm grateful. I hope they have this in their test suite now for subsequent releases.

Well, this is a first for me... Google Chrome dev 9.0.597.15 is out and it's broken. Specifically, I can scroll down with the two-finger swipe, but I cannot scroll up. The release notes even say that this is a problem, and that a fix should be released in short order.

Hmmm... I can see a lot of things missing the testing, but scrolling? Really?

I saw this morning that WordPress 3.0.3 was out with security fixes:

This release fixes issues in the remote publishing interface, which under certain circumstances allowed Author- and Contributor-level users to improperly edit, publish, or delete posts.

Sounds kind of ominous. Gee. So I went to HostMonster and upgraded my installs.

Done. Whew.

I got this picture from my little sister (the one in red) this morning. The photo was from my oldest sister (in the back) but the email was from Little Red. I'm the one int he middle. Pretty amazing to see how time flies.

I honestly have no idea when this picture was taken, but knowing the hairstyles, I'm guessing I'm 8 or 9 years old here. Funny. I wonder why I seem to be the happiest?

I saw a tweet today from the guys at github and they have created a fantastic bit of JavaScript that "slides" the contents of folders right and left as opposed to fetching a new page on each "drill down" into a folder. It's amazingly neat in that they also made the browser's "back button" work. Pretty amazing stuff.

This morning I saw that Cyberduck 3.8.1 is out, and while I had gotten 3.8, I hadn't written about it because I hadn't really even fired it up. I have to say that while I didn't mind the nagware screen asking for you to register the product, the little tag on the title bar is a new level of intrusive.

OK... I'm not a registered user, but then again, I'm a Transmit user and pay for all it's updates, etc. Cyberduck is an emergency back-up when Transmit might not get the job done. But to be fair, for those that don't want to pay for an FTP client, and I know a lot of people in that boat, this is a great tool. It's fast and capable, and the nagging is the equivalent of in-app adds on the iPhone. Something I hate, and will pay to see removed, but something that is just fine with a lot of folks.

This morning I noticed that Google Chrome dev 9.0.597.10 was out, and the release notes indicate that it's just stability fixes and a few UI tweaks. Fair enough... not every release can be amazing, and it's getting into it's final form. There hasn't been a big change in the UI in quite a while, and the improvements in the V8 engine or other infrastructure components are going to be constantly ongoing.

Still... it's nice to see progress.

This morning I saw that Skitch 1.0 (and then 1.0.1) was released as a commercial product. Fantastic news! The basic Skitch is free with adds on the web pages where images are shown, and a few restricted features in the desktop app itself. For $14.95/year you can upgrade to Skitch Plus and remove the online ads, and unlock the app's features.

I like to support the developers doing great work so I signed up. Seems reasonable and hopefully, it will ensure that the service will be around for a long time to come.

I noticed this morning that WordPress 3.0.2 was out with some security fixes. It seems to say that they have now figured out how to update WordPress from within WordPress. If so, that would be very interesting indeed. I still used the SimpleScripts upgrade path that HostMonster has - I didn't see a need to "test" that part today. Maybe the next update.

But hey... I'm all up to date and that's great news.

I checked this afternoon and it looks like iTerm2 Alpha 14 is out with another boatload of interesting features. It's something that I think the Apple folks should be looking at, but I doubt if they are. The terminal is just not a "big deal" to Apple, in general. It's for the developers, and it works. But this project is showing them that it could be so much more.

I suppose if enough people point this out they might look more closely at it. We can only hope.
